The Office of Grants Development (OGD) staff members offer workshops for faculty and staff interested in learning about funding sources and the process of grant proposal development. OGD staff members make college-wide presentations as well as smaller workshops for a school, a department, or a special group. Topics include the purpose and functions of the grants office, including discussion of grant development and submission procedures; the process involved in seeking potential sources of funding using both the Internet and traditional print sources; the process of developing a grant proposal; and what to do after the grant is received. Customized follow-up training also is available. For further information, please contact

CCBC provides educational assistance for credit and non-credit academic courses to benefit eligible employees. All full-time employees of the College, along with their spouses and dependents up to age 22, may enroll in any credit classes within CCBC and receive tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of the courses with a grade of "C" or better. This benefit is subject to the availability of funds.

Employees will be reimbursed at a rate of $200.00 per credit for undergraduate courses and at a rate of $260.00 per credit for graduate courses. To receive the reimbursement, employees must satisfactorily complete the course according to the standards of the institution at which the course is taken. Any payment of tuition reimbursement is contingent upon the availability of funds.

The maximum number of credits for which an employee can be reimbursed is 18 per fiscal year. There is no limit as to the number of credits an employee would be able to take within their career at CCBC.

Upon approval of the President, tuition reimbursement may apply to employees on sabbatical leave and/or unpaid leave of absence for the purposes of graduate or professional study.

Full-time Classified employees who enroll in courses taught through CCBC are eligible to receive a waiver of tuition payments provided that the employee enrolls in the course during non-working hours and the course has a minimum of ten regularly enrolled students.

Appropriate forms and the current policy are found on the college website.

Leadership Development Opportunities

Top pf Page

Developing from partnerships, association memberships, or other affiliations of the College are a number of leadership opportunities for individuals. One such example is the National Institute for Leadership Development, a sister organization to the American Association for Women in Community Colleges. The programs sponsored by NILD are designed for faculty and administrative women who want to reach out for more responsibility. Applicants are nominated by the College. Selected participants must design a project pertinent to the institution and the individual's professional development. The project is developed with the help of a mentor.

Another opportunity is the Baltimore County Leadership Program which assists administrators in learning about Baltimore County government, social agencies, regionalism, and city and state government systems, among many other topics. The program prepares one for a variety of roles in community service on behalf of the College. There is a one-day per month commitment as well as two overnight retreats and required social and cultural events. The program continues on through alumni and mentoring activities.

Assessment of Prior Learning

Top of Page

Many adults have participated in significant learning experiences outside the classroom through performing their job responsibilities and training for job advancement, through their military training, or through their involvement in community activities. Assessment of Prior Learning Program (APL) allows adults to have these learning evaluated for possible credit which can be applied toward certificate and degree requirements. Participating in the APL program enables one to complete her or his educational plans as quickly as possible by not having to enroll in courses for which he or she has already developed equivalent skills or competencies. The APL Program offers a variety of options to those interested in getting credit for their college-level learning. College credits may be earned through the following options: credit by examinations, departmental examinations, portfolio assessment, military training and education, non-collegiate training and education, apprenticeship training, and articulation agreements.CCBC employees are eligible for this assessment upon arrangement with the contact person below. Additional information is available at the APL website.
