Information Technology: Office Administration

About the Program

The Office Administration program is a state-of-the-art program that provides students not only with technical skills but also with the necessary analytical, conceptual, communication, and organizational skills to perform successfully in the many situations found in the office environment. The program provides students a capstone experience in project management, which the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) identify as the newest skill set for the 21st century administrative professional. Specialty options include Software Applications Specialist, Executive Administrative Assistant, Medical Office Administration, and Legal Office Administration.

The Executive Administration Assistant option is aligned with the certification standards of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). Students who successfully complete this degree track will be prepared to sit for the IAAP Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) certification exam.

The Medical Office Administration option is approved by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) Association. Successful graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS) examination.

The Software Applications Specialist option and the Business Software Applications certificate prepare students to take the Microsoft Certification Application Specialist (MCAS) exams. CCBC Catonsville is an authorized MCAS testing site.

Certificates are available that offer core courses from the various degree options. Students who cannot commit to a degree program may start with a certificate program and carry the courses into a degree program if desired.
