Welcome to the Student Success Center!

The Student Success Center is an important part of CCBC Essex's commitment to giving students the tools they need to learn.

We believe in the potential of all learners and their ability to achieve educational, vocational, and personal goals. Located in A 307, the center offers the following learning support services to students:

Technological Resources

Technological resources at the Student Success Center can help bolster student's hard work in the classroom. The center has twenty-four computers packed with software to help in a variety of ways:

- Learn to type using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing;

- Type your term paper or prepare a spreadsheet using Microsoft Office;

- Review basic Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra through College Algebra;

- Use Focus on Grammar to review English;

- Take an inventory of your learning and study strategies using LASSI;

- Improve your learning and study strategies using LASSI modules;

- Take advantage of specific, course related software.

 

Student Development Workshops

Workshops on textbook reading, note taking, test-taking, managing your time, learning styles, Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), basic computer skills, and other topics relating to academic success are offered on a regular basis.

 

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

The Student Success Center coordinates the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program for CCBC Essex. Supplemental Instruction targets traditionally difficult courses and provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer facilitated sessions. SI leaders regularly offer scheduled, out-of-class review sessions to all students enrolled in a targeted course. These sessions are informal seminars in which students can review their notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools and prepare for examinations. Supplemental Instruction.

The First-Year Experience (FYE)

Get the tools you need to support your transition to college life. This program helps students understand how CCBC works, and it provides important campus resources like computers and certified tutors. It assists students to sharpen crucial skills like goal setting, test taking, studying, and critical thinking to ensure a successful first year and beyond.
