When interviewing you need to know the following:
_____The date and time of your interview
_____The street address and cross streets (get directions from employer)
_____The best transportation to get to the interview (car, rail, subway,
or bus)
_____How long it will take to get to the interview
Know about the interviewer, the job, and the company. Know the
following:
_____The name of the person who will interview you
_____The type of business and the name of the company
_____Some of the duties
_____The usual salary for the job
Bring these things with you to the interview:
-
Your Social Security card (the original)
-
Drivers License or any other picture ID
Think about these things:
_____The answers to usual interview questions
______The clothes you will wear (clean and ironed)
_____Physical appearance (neatness, cleanliness and personal hygiene)
The Interview:
-
Go to the interview alone. The employer is interested in only you.
Even if someone drives you, they should not be waiting for you in the
company's waiting room.
-
Arrive early, 5-10 minutes ahead of time. Tell the receptionist your
name and the name of the person you are scheduled to meet.
-
Remember to smile and have a firm handshake when offered.
-
Be focused.
-
Speak clearly with good volume.
-
Make eye contact immediately and continue to do so throughout the
interview.
-
List to the questions asked.
-
Answer only what the interviewer is asking; do not discuss your
personal life
Closing the Interview:
-
As the interview closes, express interest in the position and briefly
say why you are qualified.
-
Be prepared with questions that indicate that you are familiar with
the company.
-
Ask what the next step will be or when you can expect to hear from the
interviewer.
REMEMBER: Stress what you have to offer the employer, not what
the employer can do for you. DO NOT ask about salary, training, benefits
and other perks in the 1st interview. Only if the employer tell you
about them, can they be discussed, but do not ask questions in great
depth about them.
