CCBC Catonsville Student Success Center: Guidelines

What We Expect of You

What You Should Expect of Us

1. Be a ready initiator in taking advantage of tutorial resources. Don't wait until right before a due date or an exam if there are things you would like to work through with a tutor. Don't let difficulties with studies sneak up on you. We're open all semester long. Come to us early!

2. Be prepared to explain clearly what you would like to work through. That means:

  • bringing a copy of the assignment or syllabus so that the tutor can clearly see what your instructors are asking of you.
  • having definite questions for the tutor.

3. Be prepared to focus. That means:

  • doing as much of the assignment or problem as you can before the tutorial session.
  • organizing your thoughts—ideas and questions—about the assignment.
  • bringing with you whatever you need to do the work—textbook, notebook, pen or pencil, paper, calculator, etc.

1. Tutors are to work with you in a friendly, personal way. They should show:

  • a sincere desire to help you.
  • courtesy, consideration, and respect for you.
  • careful effort to hear and understand you.
  • patience and persistence in helping you to make progress with your studies.

2. Tutors are to be committed to the things that actually lead to your growth as a student. They should provide:

  • effective principles and strategies for handling the subject you're studying.
  • ideas for finding other resources for help with your studies.
  • in their own behavior, examples of the attitudes and methods of a good student.

3. Tutors are to support CCBC policies and standards and work within the framework of the Student Success Center's rules and guidelines.
