About Us
UPWARD BOUND is a pre-college preparatory program for high school
students in grades 9-11 who have the potential to pursue postsecondary
education.
The primary goal of UPWARD BOUND is to provide students with academic,
social, career and motivational skills that will enable them to enroll
in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Academic Year Component
Consists of a Saturday Academic Enrichment Program which provides
instruction in Reading, Composition and Mathematics. Other services
provided include tutorial assistance, academic advisement, guidance and
counseling, SAT/ACT Prep, educational/career/college-bound workshops,
college visitations and cultural/educational field trips.
Summer Component
A six week Residential and Academic Enrichment Program. Intensive
instruction is provided in Mathematics, Science, Literature and Spanish.
Other services include elective classes (Drama, Black History,
Technology and College Seminar), tutorial assistance, guidance and
counseling, workshops and recreational/educational/cultural field trips.
Target Schools
High school students who attend Lansdowne High School, Milford Mill
Academy, Owings Mills High School, Randallstown High School, Western
School of Technology and Environmental Science or Woodlawn High School,
Newtown High School, or reside in the Northwest/Southwest Baltimore
County area, and whose parent(s) has/have not obtained a four-year
college degree, and/or whose family’s current taxable income meets
federal guidelines are eligible to apply.
