become a learning-centered college.

1.1.2 Conduct a series of student, faculty and staff focus groups
to ascertain attitudes and beliefs that support or hinder the
college's move to becoming a more learning-centered institution.
Analyze the findings of the focus groups to determine the most
consistent themes.
1.1.3 Develop strategies to further analyze results and to respond
to qualitative and quantitative measurements that are reflected in
the focus group responses.

Results of the Vanguard Learning College Inventory:
Notes: CCBC will distribute the Vanguard Learning College
Inventory in early Fall. Inventory responses will be tabulated by
December. Subsequent actions will be taken to respond to survey
results.
CCBC will conduct thorough assessments of its current staff
development programs and the extent to which they support
learning-centered initiatives.

1.2.1 Complete an audit of current academic policies to determine
the level of consistency to the learning college principles.
1.2.2 Develop new policies that will lead to the enhancement of
the facilitation of student learning (i.e. early intervention and
warning systems).
1.2.3 Incorporate learning first language and objectives into new
and revised academic policies.
Completion Date Expected Outcome: October 2000 through June

Notes: Through the college's Think Tank and Academic Council, CCBC
will begin the process of reviewing all academic policies in the
Fall 2000. This will become an ongoing process to insure that
policies support the institution's focus on learning.
CCBC will create decision-making structures, policies, procedures
and action plans to insure the involvement of all key stakeholders
in facilitating learning.

level shared governance bodies.
1.3.2 Conduct annual fall "Focus on Learning" program.

Notes: The "Focus on Learning" program was initiated in the Fall
2000 and will become an annual event for the college.
CCBC will revise the language in all appropriate documents to
reflect the new emphasis on learning.

1.4.1 Inventory all college publications to determine the best
approach to integrate LearningFirst language into all documents.
1.4.2 Revise current publications to include LearningFirst
language.
1.4.3 Develop new publications that highlight specific

1.4.4 Establish a LearningFirst editorial committee to monitor all
CCBC documents and press releases on an ongoing basis.
1.4.5 Develop LearningFirst promotional materials to communicate
CCBC's commitment to the learning college. (Lapel Pins, Caps,
T-Shirts, etc.)

Notes: A significant degree of progress has been made on this
initiative over the past year. Clearly communicating the college's
commitment to learning college principles through publications,
promotions and press releases will continue to receive attention.

1.5.1 Develop learning communities that include master learners to
incorporate student success strategies.
1.5.2 Develop faculty workshops that aid faculty in developing
techniques that shift the focus to becoming effective learning
facilitators.
1.5.3 Expand the center for learning and teaching excellence to
include resources on how to effectively encourage students to
accept primary responsibility for learning.
1.5.4 Develop workshops for students on responsible learning
techniques.
1.5.5 Develop publications on student learning and distribute
through the counseling centers, student life and academic success
centers.
1.5.6 Develop workshops to train students to become more effective
learning facilitators.
