CCBC will conduct a thorough assessment of its current use of information technology and the extent to which technology is used to support learning-centered activities.

Expected Outcome Priority: Primary

Outcome Action Steps:

3.1.1 To develop a new technology plan that promotes the use of technology to support a learning-centered college.

3.1.2 To conduct an assessment of the current use of information technology in support of the development of a learning college.

3.1.3 To develop accurate infrastructure and asset inventories.

3.1.4 To develop instructional technology plans based on current utilization and program needs.

3.1.5 To conduct continuous assessments to monitor projects and project outcomes based on completions, future findings and funding.

3.1.6 To implement the findings of the new college technology plan to promote the use of technology in support of a learning-centered college.

Completion Date Expected Outcome: June 2001 through June 2003

Notes: Activities to date include the first CCBC Technology Plan 1998-2000 that included a thorough assessment of technology. The new technology plan will thoroughly assess the technology needs of a learning college and will occur in this fiscal year. Implementation of a full assessment and implementation of plan will continue through June 2003.

CCBC will use information technology to enhance a sense of community by creating programs that encourage collaboration and connectivity for students, faculty and staff.

Expected Outcome Priority: Primary

Outcome Action Steps: 

3.2.1 To develop a college Intranet to improve management and communications throughout the college.

3.2.2 To expand the use of Email as a communications tool for the college.

3.2.3 To expand the operation and functionality of the CCBC Website.

3.2.4 To implement additional Web modules including Web for Students, Executives and Faculty.

3.2.5 To evaluate and implement additional Banner web modules.

3.2.6 To expand the number of open labs and access for students to computers.

Completion Date Expected Outcome: June 2003, partial implementation of each by June 2001.

Notes: The College has done much in this area to date: the CCBC Technology Plan 1998 –2000, the implementation of college Email system, development of a College Website, establishment of student Email accounts, establishment of staff and faculty training programs, computers provided for all faculty and staff, and increased connectivity for all faculty and staff through new infrastructure project. Future directions include the expansion of current services.

 

Expected Outcome 3.3:

CCBC will create and expand opportunities for asynchronous learning through information technology.

Outcome Action Steps: 

3.3.1 To publish student and faculty guides for Distance Learning.

3.3.2 To develop a strategy to promote distance and asynchronous learning infrastructure by outsourcing web technical and faculty training support.

3.3.3 To explore and implement cooperative agreements for the delivery of on-line and other forms of asynchronous learning.

3.3.4 To explore, evaluate and implement increased on-line student support services.

3.3.5 To expand the role of the Internet and on-line materials to support regular classroom instruction.

3.3.6 To explore expanding the role of CCBC TV in delivering telecourses.

3.3.7 To expand asynchronous learning offerings each year by 10 percent.

Notes: To date the college has conducted training for faculty in the Teachers Learning Computers (TLC) and Virtual Academy. It has also developed over sixty on-line courses and in an active partner in the Maryland Community College Teleconsortium (MCCT).

 

 

Expected Outcome 3.4:

CCBC will use information technology to improve and expand its services to students in such areas as admissions, advising, financial aid, orientation, registration, assessment, placement and progressive monitoring.

Outcome Action Steps: 

3.4.1 To complete the installation of the telephone registration module.

3.4.2 To fully implement the Banner Website for Student module for inquiry and registration.

3.4.3 To streamline on-line fee collection and processing for CCBC students.

3.4.4 To implement the degree audit module for Banner to improve student advising.

3.4.5 To expand the functionality of the Banner system through the establishment of user groups, especially in the student services modules.

3.4.6 To expand the CCBC Website to provide more student support services.

Notes: College has installed a comprehensive student and administrative information system to support student activities such as admissions, registration, etc. The college has also implemented other computerized systems for assessment and job placement. Effort here will be to expand the functionality of the current systems, expand to other areas using the Web as the focal point.

 

Expected Outcome 3.5:

CCBC will experiment with technology-enhanced stand-alone options for learning that can be utilized by students with no assistance from college staff.

Expected Outcome Priority: Secondary

Outcome Action Steps: 

3.5.1 To assess current stand-alone learning and service options students and staff.

3.5.2 To establish a subcommittee of the Educational Technology Committee and Professional Staff development Committee to explore the efficacy of stand-alone learning modules and services.

3.5.3 To implement at least three stand-alone instructional learning options based on the recommendations of subcommittee including one for student orientation.

3.5.4 To implement at least two stand-alone staff learning options based on the recommendations of subcommittee.

3.5.5 To conduct an assessment of the stand-alone learning option.

Notes: The College has used some stand alone interactive learning programs for program course delivery in credit and continuing education courses. The focus of this effort will be to review and evaluate current efforts and to expand learning and service options.

 

 

Expected Outcome 3.6:

CCBC will research and determine the effectiveness of information technology.

Expected Outcome Priority: Primary

Outcome Action Steps: 

3.6.1 To survey students and faculty on the effectiveness of instructional technology as an aid to student learning.

3.6.2 To develop and conduct two outcomes assessment projects each year that focus on the impact of instructional technology in the learning process.

3.6.3 To conduct an assessment of the effectiveness of on-line learning instruction compared to traditional instruction.

3.6.4 To develop questions on instructional technology for a student faculty evaluation instrument and implement that instrument.

Completion Date Expected Outcome: June 2002 - June 2003.

Notes: There are current surveys of students that include information technology-related questions that can be employed as a baseline.
