CCBC will conduct a thorough outcome assessment of the current CCBC program for underprepared students to determine student success rates, program strengths, and program weaknesses.

Expected Outcome Priority: Primary

Outcome Action Steps:

5.1.1 Refine the outcome assessment plan for developmental education at CCBC and create a timetable.

5.1.2 Complete Phase 1 of the evaluation, including identifying outcomes, conducting the NADE self-evaluation and gathering descriptive statistics.

5.1.3 Complete Phase 2 of the outcomes assessment, including the gathering of success data such as grades in next course, G.P.A., and retention statistics.

5.1.4 Complete outcomes studies on RDNG 052, ENGL 052, and MATH 083.

5.1.5 Complete Phase 3 of the outcome assessment, including gathering of qualitative information on non-cognitive variables through the LASSI.

5.1.6 Compile entire outcome assessment report.

Improve student services for underprepared students by creating a mandatory continuous advising program.

Expected Outcome Priority: Secondary

Outcome Action Steps: 

5.2.1 Establish a plan for an advising structure for developmental reading students. Infuse the advising structure with the use of tools which test non-cognitive variables and use learning plans.

5.2.2 Pilot the use learning plans for developmental reading students.

5.2.3 Review pilot and make adjustments.

5.2.4 Implement a phased-in advising structure for all developmental reading students.

CCBC will open Student Success Centers on each campus which offer extensive walk-in and virtual learning assistance opportunities for all students.

5.3.1 Procure funding for Student Success Centers on the three campuses.

5.3.2 Open Student Success Centers on all three campuses.

5.3.3 Provide increases in general tutoring and supplemental instruction in accordance with the Title III grant.

5.3.4 Institute virtual tutoring including Reading-Writing Connection in accordance with Title III grant.

5.3.5 Conduct formative evaluation on learning outcomes for the centers.

Expand the number of learning options for underprepared students, including increasing the learning communities program, creating distance courses, increasing the number of pre-college institutes, and implementing other innovative delivery systems.

5.5.1 Explore the development of new learning communities through seminars.

5.5.2 Develop and schedule new communities in accordance with Title III scehdule.

5.5.3 Evaluate the outcomes of developmental learning communities.

5.5.5 Evaluate the outcomes of Pre-College Institutes.

Design and implement staff development programs for faculty and staff with primary responsibility aimed at increasing student success rates for underprepared students.

5.6.1 Second Annual CCBC Developmental Education Symposium will be organized.

5.6.2 Plan for professional development created in accordance with Title III grant.

5.6.3 Professional development program begins.

5.6.4 Systematic training conducted for all part-time faculty who teach developmental courses.

Expected Outcome 5.7

CCBC will develop and evaluate the outcomes of a program for the most seriously deficient developmental education students.

Outcome Action Steps: 

5.7.1 Programs are explored in conjunction with Continuing Education and Community Education; literature reviewed.

5.7.2 ASE (Academic Skills Enhancement) program is piloted on Eastern Ave.

5.7.3 Outcomes assessment is conducted on ASE program at Catonsville.

5.7.4 Policy and curriculum are proposed to address the needs of these learners.

Expected Outcome 5.8

 

Create an Early Interventiuon Assessment/Program in Conjunction With Baltimore County Public School.

Expected Outcome Priority: Secondary

Outcome Action Steps:

5.8.1 Pilot for testing sophomores and juniors is conducted in Baltimore County High Schools.

5.8.2 Pilot for intervention in Baltimore County High Schools is conducted.

5.8.3 Grant proposals are written to fund project.

5.8.4 Outcomes assessment for pilot is conducted.

5.8.5 Plan for Early Intervention created.
