TLC2 is a semester/year long training program specifically designed to meet the technology needs of faculty wishing to enhance their classes through the use of various computer technologies. TLC2 uses a semester long approach in order to provide on-going assistance as the participants (faculty) learn and experiment with new teaching strategies using technology. The following is a sample of the class levels and topics offered through TLC2 classes. The exact classes and topics offered on each campus may vary, and interested persons should consult with the campus TLC2 coordinator a few weeks prior to the beginning of each semester to obtain the latest information for that semester.

The Beginning cohort will receive hands-on instruction in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Internet browsing, PowerPoint, and email. This group will learn how to develop materials for the classroom. The beginning group will meet for 1.5 hours weekly for a full academic year.

Spring:

Continuation of Fall topics Individual projects

The Intermediate Level TLC2 classes are semester-long classes offered in modular form, thus allowing the participant to focus on specific topics of interest. The following topics will be offered for 10 weeks in the fall. Classes will meet for 1.5 hours weekly. Please note the Campus location for these classes. Participants may sign up for more than one module and can take the module at any available campus.

Fall: 

Participants will learn how to:

  • Graphics

CCBC Use Photoshop to create graphics that will provide a visual identity for the instructional materials for courses. Topics will include using visuals to communicate, extracting visual resources from the web, and creating course graphics for a variety of applications.

  • PowerPoint

CCBC Catonsville only Use PowerPoint as a teaching resource. Learn how to engage students. Topics will include how to incorporate clip art, scanned images, and digitized photographs into an electronic presentation.

  • PowerPoint/Graphics

CCBC Essex only Use PowerPoint as a teaching resource. Learn how to engage students. Topics will include how to incorporate and modify clip art, photographs, and video; how to design graphic elements to enhance a presentation; and how to place a presentation on the web. Photoshop will be one of the tools introduced.

  • Web Page Development
    CCBC Essex only

Use the Internet as a creative medium for the delivery of instructional materials. Receive hands-on instruction in the design and maintenance of effective web pages and sites. Participants will create web pages for their own classes and learn how to convert their existing course materials for use on the web.

  • Web Page -- Dreamweaver
    CCBC Dundalk only

Use Dreamweaver to place course materials on the Web. Learn how to create web pages for use in classes and how to convert existing course materials for use on the Web.

 

The following Advanced TLC2 topics will be offered for 10 weeks in the fall. Classes will meet for 1.5 hours weekly. Those registering for this class should have good computer and Internet skills.

 

Fall: 

Participants will learn how to: 

  • Dreamweaver/WebCT

CCBC Essex only Use Dreamweaver to create and maintain web pages and web sites. Work with WebCt, which can be used to present and manage an online course.

  • WebCT

CCBC Catonsville and CCBC Dundalk Learn the features of WebCT, which can be used to present and manage an online course, to enhance a traditional face-to-face course by providing online resources, or to reinforce WebCT skills learned in the Virtual Academy. Use the following WebCT tools:

  • Course management tools, which can be used for posting grades in a secure online environment.
  • Communications tools such as course specific e-mail, bulletin board, and chat room.
  • File management tools, which will allow one to upload and deliver course material.
  • Online self-tests.

CCBC Catonsville and CCBC Dundalk For faculty who took Dreamweaver during the Fall semester and who would like to continue exploring its use for creating web pages for their courses.
