Full time faculty members who are interested in developing online courses are invited to apply for the Virtual Academy. Participation is limited to twenty people, and the selection of candidates will be made by the CCBC Distance Learning Advisory Panel, based on curricular needs. Two academies are held each year -- in the late spring and in January.

The following is a partial agenda of activities and hands-on workshops:

  • Distance Learning Concepts
  • Principles of Good Practice in Distance Learning
  • Organizing course materials in interactive modalities
  • Selecting appropriate Web tools for each learning task.
  • Introduction to Dreamweaver and templates
  • Creating a welcome page, syllabus, instructor's bio, calendar, etc.
  • Publishing course templates
  • Introduction to WebCT.
  • Using WebCT templates
  • Management and communications tools n Self-test and assessment tools.

Following the Virtual Academy session, participants can expect continued assistance in developing their courses throughout the semester. An open lab with technical and pedagogical support will be scheduled weekly for their convenience. Faculty members who participated in TLC 2/ Dreamweaver are encouraged to enroll and build on their experience.

Faculty members who attend the Academy and develop an online course are entitled to a stipend of $1500, or reassigned time of 3 TLH (subject to approval of the Campus President or the Academic Division Dean.)
