Shanell Thompson named head coach for CCBC Dundalk Women’s Basketball

Mar 11, 2020

CCBC Dundalk Athletics has announced the hiring of Shanell Thompson as head Women’s Basketball coach. Thompson has coached basketball in Baltimore City schools for the past nine years.

“I would like to thank CCBC Dundalk Athletics for believing in me and trusting me with innovative ideas in growing the women’s program here,” Thompson stated. “My vision for the Women's Basketball program will focus on building a culture of accountability, trust, and togetherness.”

Thompson is well-versed as a coach and player in interscholastic athletics. She was a dual sport varsity athlete at Carver Vo-Tech High School (Baltimore, Md.) in basketball and volleyball. She continued with her passion for both sports and became a Baltimore City middle school coach for basketball, volleyball and softball. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Thompson coached at every opportunity. In 2014 she went on to coach varsity volleyball program at Frederick Douglass High School, and varsity softball at Mergenthaler High School in 2015.

Thompson’s variety of coaching positions stems from her passion to provide young female athletes with opportunities to compete in athletics. In 2014, Thompson became the program director at Starlings Volleyball Club and led a team of 18-year-old girls to a second-place finish at nationals.
