CCBC appoints Dr. Joaquin Martinez Provost and Vice President of Instruction

Baltimore County, Md. – Community College of Baltimore County is pleased to announce that Dr. Joaquin Martinez has been named CCBC’s next provost and vice president of Instruction. Martinez will join CCBC’s leadership team on July 1, 2020.

Martinez spent the last decade in significant leadership positions at Miami Dade College (MDC) in Florida, the largest and one of the most diverse community colleges in the nation, with eight campuses and an annual enrollment topping more than 150,000 students from around the globe.

He currently serves as district vice provost with oversight for institutional effectiveness across all eight MDC campuses. His previous leadership positions at MDC include president of two MDC campuses, Wolfson and Hialeah; associate dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs; associate provost of Student Achievement; and dean of Faculty and Student Services. Previously, Martinez was the founding director of the School of Education at Albizu University, a comprehensive university offering doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees emphasizing service to diverse communities. It has campuses in both Puerto Rico and Miami.

We are proud to have Dr. Martinez join us in Maryland bringing the type of expertise and breadth of experience needed for this very important position.”

Martinez earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Modern Languages from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont; his master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Administration and Supervision at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida; and his doctorate in Higher Education Leadership and Research Methodology at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He is also a past fellow of the American Association of Community College´s National Community College Hispanic Council program at California State University, Long Beach.
