Community College of Baltimore County was recently awarded a $137,283 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Innovation Fund grant from the Maryland State Department of Education to develop an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Data Science.

CCBC will create three Data Science courses to supplement an existing course created through another CTE grant completed in June 2021. By offering Data Science courses and a degree program, CCBC will enable students to prepare for employment in one of the fastest growing professions in the nation.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, over the next ten years, the Data Sciences profession will see growth ranging from 8 – 22%, and median annual salaries ranging from $86,000 to $150,000. Data scientists are employed across industries, including Fortune 500 companies, tech start-ups, cybersecurity, IT, government and nonprofit organizations, and market research.

MSDE awards the CTE Innovation annually to provide funds to develop and implement a CTE curriculum framework and program that is innovative and includes promising practices that are used by the best CTE programs around the world. The goal is that these programs will lead to high-wage, high-skill or in-demand careers in support of Maryland’s workforce and economic development needs.
