Community College of Baltimore County President Sandra L. Kurtinitis is pleased to welcome Cristina Lopez to the college’s Board of Trustees. The Board maintains general oversight of CCBC. Its responsibilities include adopting rules and regulations for college operations, approving the college budget, considering and approving CCBC’s academic programs, major purchases and long-range plans.

Appointed to the CCBC Board of Trustees by Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Lopez is chief of strategy and operations at Last Mile Education Fund, which aims to increase diversity in tech and engineering fields by addressing critical gaps in financial support for low-income underrepresented students within four semesters of graduation.

Prior to joining Last Mile, Lopez was the launch team facilitator of the Mayor’s Scholars Program, a last-dollar scholarship for Baltimore City Community College students. She also launched the Weiss Institute, a partnership of America’s Promise and the Say Yes to Education Foundation, which partnered with communities to create promise programs and improve K-12 college and career readiness. Lopez also served as a campaign director at the Baltimore Community Foundation.

Previously, she held leadership roles as vice president at Wellington Management Company and vice president of strategy and business development at eHealth Latin America. She began her career in private equity with Latin Healthcare Fund and in consulting with Deloitte.

Lopez holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School and a bachelor’s degree from Brown University. She is the proud daughter of an Ecuadorian immigrant and speaks fluent Spanish.
