Community College of Baltimore County is pleased to announce the Benjamin Banneker Planetarium will present four shows this winter season, which opens Friday, Feb. 9, 2024 at CCBC Catonsville. Shows include:

“Winter Conjunctions!” 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9, 2024
Conjunctions occur when two planets (or a planet and the moon) are on the same side of the sun as the Earth and appear very close to each other in the night sky. This winter, there will be several: the moon and Saturn on Feb. 10, the moon and Jupiter on March 15, and Venus and Mars on March 22. Learn how to look for these astronomical events without a telescope. This show is suitable for adults and children over the age of 8. (Outside observing afterwards, weather permitting.)

“Girls Can Be Astronomers, Too!” 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024
(Children’s show)
Cecelia Payne, Margaret Mitchell, Margaret Hamilton and Vera Rubin all loved to look at the stars as young girls. When they grew up, they made major contributions to the science of astronomy – why can’t you?

“Two Eclipses in Two Weeks!” 8 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2024
On Monday, March 25, there will be a penumbral lunar eclipse. Two weeks later, on Monday April 8, there will a solar eclipse. Learn more eclipses and how to view them safely. This show is suitable for adults and children over the age of 8. (Outside observing afterwards, weather permitting.)

“Boynton the Space Bunny Goes to Another Solar System” 10 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2024
(Children’s show)
Come see how Boynton becomes the first bunny to accompany NASA astronauts to another solar system: The Trappist 1 System. Is it like our solar system or is it different?

All planetarium shows are FREE and open to the public. Shows are held in Room 030A (Benjamin Banneker Planetarium) located in the Mathematics and Science Hall building at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Rd.
