Creating authentic and accessible pathways to political participation
In the novel, The Secret Lives of Bees, Lily’s caretaker, Rosaleen Daise, attempts to exercise her right to vote despite segregation laws and racial violence used to bar her from voting. Arabia Simeon, Founder and CEO of Politics on the Go (POGO), explores how Gen Z and Millennials are reshaping civic life and what it takes to build tools that meet young people where they are.
Drawing from her own journey of building a civic tech platform rooted in culture, design and community research, Arabia breaks down the barriers young voters face today, the impact of misinformation and outdated political outreach, and why the future of democracy depends on creating authentic, accessible pathways into political participation. Students will walk away with a deeper understanding of how civic engagement is evolving and how they can play a meaningful role in shaping the systems around them.
This event is co-sponsored by the Community Book Connection (CBC) and the Institute for Social and Economic Justice (ISEJ).
