More than just being outside
Gina Strass, LCPC, Director of Programming and Outreach for the Center for Nature Informed Therapy and Clinician, Chesapeake Mental Health Collaborative, will discuss Nature Informed Therapy, which uses the healing power of the outdoors to improve mental and physical well-being. Guided or done independently, Nature Informed Therapy utilizes traditional psychotherapy in natural settings like parks, forests or gardens, to foster connection, calm and healing through activities like walking, mindfulness, art or even animal interaction.
Nature Informed Therapy intentionally uses nature as a therapeutic tool to reduce stress, boost mood and promote self-awareness. We will be walking and talking along the Essex Nature Trail. This event connects to the concepts of healing trauma using nature and the power of community in the The Secret Life of Bees.
