The family of former CCBC Dundalk President Dr. John E. Ravekes will hold a Celebration of Life Ceremony in the CCBC Dundalk John E. Ravekes Theatre to honor his life, legacy and work. The ceremony takes place 3 – 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27 and is open to the public.

Dr. Ravekes was a well-known figure in Baltimore County’s community college system for many years. He was the founding president of Dundalk Community College and later served as president of Essex Community College. Dr. Ravekes was a driving force in leading the growth of Dundalk Community College from its early beginnings in a former church and local YMCA to a fully accredited institution. Because of his passion for the Arts, he established the Dundalk Community Theatre as a cornerstone for the Arts in Dundalk.

In 1995, CCBC fittingly dedicated the theatre on the Dundalk campus as "The John E. Ravekes Theatre," in commemoration of Dr. Ravekes and his efforts to bring quality theater to the community college. Dr. Ravekes was 84 years old at the time of his passing.
