The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) has been awarded $475,000 through the Maryland Energy Administration’s Offshore Wind Workforce Training grant.
This funding will support CCBC’s initiative to enhance workforce training programs tailored for the offshore wind industry, increasing the number of certified professionals to meet industry demands. Programs supported by this funding include Professional Boat Captain Licenses (including 100-ton vessels), Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL) Class A, Welding and Fabrication certificates, and Transportation, Distribution and Maritime Logistics (TDML) certifications. These specialized programs equip workers with essential skills for roles in maritime, transportation, and logistics sectors, crucial for supporting offshore wind operations.
In addition to scholarship support for these programs, the project team (Mr. Kipp Snow, Mr. Jay Bouis, and Dr. Laura Cripps) will assess whether the programs need further development to strengthen the tie to offshore wind. Along with further development of the curriculum, the project staff will develop pathways for the following items: Credit for Prior Learning, Non-Credit to Degree Credit Integration, Stackable Credentials and Workforce pathways.
