Students who have been approved to graduate should do the following:

  • Wear your cap and gown. Beneath, be sure to dress nice, but comfortably. Commencement is a rain or shine event!

  • If you brought personal items, leave them in your car or with your guests, as there will be no place to store them.
  • Report to the Wellness and Athletics Center by 9:45 a.m. for lineup.
  • During the ceremony, be courteous of others by remaining seated, turning devices to silent, and keeping noise to a minimum.
  • Smile! Every participant in the commencement ceremony will be professionally photographed by GradImages.
  • Share your photos and memories on social media, using #CCBCproud!
  • Stay in touch! Joining the Alumni Association is free and gets you lots of discounts.
  • GradImages will reach out with your photo proofs for purchase.
  • A few weeks after commencement, we will mail your diploma (if you haven't already received it).
  • Take a deep breath — you did it!

President's Distinguished Graduate

Be recognized for achieving beyond expectations!

Each year, we select a student who has shown exemplary leadership and service to earn the President’s Distinguished Graduate Award. The recipient receives a $2,500 transfer scholarship and delivers the commencement address.

Ixtle on stage receiving the PDG award

Being able to go [to CCBC] and be a part of all these different programs and events really opened my eyes to how much there is in this world and how many paths I can pursue.

Cap and gown

All participants are required to wear proper regalia for the ceremony.

Please complete the commencement participation form before pickup.

  • From April 29 - May 31, you can pick up your cap, gown and a set of 10 announcements at any CCBC Bookstore. We recommend picking them up sooner so you can decorate your mortarboard and send your announcements.
  • You can also pick up your cap and gown on commencement day at the CCBC Essex Bookstore.
  • If you're graduating with honors, you’ll get a gold tassel.
  • You can decorate your cap as long as the decorations are in good taste, are flat and do not extend beyond the mortarboard (the top).
  • Do not decorate the gown, hood or tassel.
  • If we find your regalia inappropriate, you may be asked to remove the decorations or to not cross the stage.

This is a special occasion! Dress nice but keep an eye on weather to dress accordingly. We usually recommend wearing light, breathable fabrics and shoes with low or no heel since you’ll be walking through grassy areas and taking stairs to walk onstage.

Commencement 2023

The weather was picture-perfect for Commencement 2023 where we celebrated our graduates who proudly walked across the stage to accept their well-earned diplomas. More than 800 graduates attended the ceremony representing the approximately 2,800 within the Class of 2023. We stand #CCBCproud and can’t wait to see what our graduates do next!
