CCBC 2021 Graduate
General Studies

When his top college pick deferred his application, Dev Patel made the last-minute decision to enroll at CCBC in Fall 2019, and he’s never looked back.

“My goal was to be more involved at CCBC, so I researched and found opportunities,” said Patel, who graduated with an associate degree in General Studies and a 4.0 GPA. “I took the risk of joining the Cross Country and Track and Field teams and it was a domino effect. Now all of these opportunities have pushed me to be the best version of myself every day. I’m a student-athlete, but a student first.”

Patel dove head first into a variety of extracurricular activities on campus. He was an FYE First-Year Experience Mentor, a member of the Mellon Scholars Program, CCBC Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and a CCBC Fresh Faces student ambassador. He also demonstrated his leadership ability while captain of the CCBC Track and Field team.

“By no means am I naturally gifted or talented,” he said. “I was slower than most of my teammates, but I didn’t let that stop me. I believe my effort can impact my future twice as much as being talented. I led by example by showing up every day and putting in 110% effort.”

Patel plans to transfer to University of Maryland to major in Finance and become a financial advisor to educate people on financial literacy. He would eventually like to earn his MBA, become a motivational speaker and have his own Ted Talk to inspire future generations, and open a gym with his cousin.

“I highly value my education because I’m a first generation Indian-American,” said Patel. “I have seen my parents sacrifice so much so I can have a better future. I have people rooting for me that I can’t let down.”
