Peter Pucci
CCBC alumnus,
Dance

“ I feel I owe my 30+ year career to that moment at CCBC. ”

Peter Pucci kept an experienced eye on members of the CCBC Dance Company, observing both movement and technique.

The CCBC alumnus and world-renowned professional dancer, choreographer and movement director conducted a rare master dance class at CCBC Essex, scheduled in conjunction with CCBC’s Year of the Performing Arts.

Pucci’s journey to artistic and commercial success began humbly enough at then-Essex Community College in the 1970s, when he enrolled at the college as an aspiring high school Physical Education teacher. A required dance class proved to be a life changer.

“Dance chose me,” said Pucci, a handsome, powerfully graceful figure on the dance floor and off. “I feel I owe my 30+ year career to that moment at CCBC.”

From CCBC Essex, he went on to Southern Methodist University and North Carolina School for the Arts before moving to New York to pursue a career in dance. Committed to dance education, Pucci is Artist in Residence at Manhattanville College and is also a guest artist at the Juilliard School in NYC.

Pucci has garnered an international reputation for innovative choreography and movement. He has choreographed ballets for numerous ballet and modern dance companies around the world, and has created movement for industrials, fashion shows, commercials, videos, film, television and opera. He also directs and choreographs for his own company, Peter Pucci Plus Dancers.
