Mathematics and Science Pathway Programs

The Mathematics and Science Pathway offers Associate of Science degree programs as well as an Associate of Applied Science degree and several certificate programs in horticulture and landscapes.

The Associate of Science degree has a number of areas of concentration which were developed to assist students seeking transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree.  In addition, students may pursue the Science degree with flexibility in electives which allows transition into a four-year program that may not have a matching concentration at CCBC.

Mathematics and Science Programs

Biology

A major in the biological sciences is recommended for students interested in pursuing further study in biology, botany, zoology, ecology/environmental sciences, microbiology, agriculture, forestry, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics or marine biology. This pattern also provides an excellent foundation for studies in pre-medicine, pre-dentistry and pre-veterinary medicine and may qualify students for positions as biology laboratory technicians.

Associate of Science

Chemistry

This degree pattern is designed to help students transfer to colleges and universities that offer a baccalaureate degree with a major in Chemistry. Beyond the General Education requirements and options, this pattern should be considered in light of the requirements of the selected transfer institution. Students should consult with a transfer coordinator or an advisor for information about specific requirements.

Associate of Science

Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

Geology and Meteorology are the fields in this concentration. Students gain knowledge to relate the Earth’s dynamic processes to its composition, structure, and surface features. Geologists are involved in a wide range of activities, including studies of Earth materials and processes, exploration for resources, and understanding and protecting the environment. Meteorology draws upon many sources for its material because of its attempts to describe processes and changes in the atmosphere.
Associate of Science

Environmental Science

This degree pattern is designed to help students transfer to colleges and universities that offer a baccalaureate degree with a major in Environmental Science. Beyond the General Education requirements and other degree, program, and elective requirements, this pattern should be considered in light of the requirements of the selected transfer institution.

Associate of Science

General Studies

General Studies offers maximum flexibility for students who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree upon graduation from CCBC or for whom a general studies degree best meets their academic goals or career. This program is especially appealing to students who wish to design their own course of study or who have accumulated a significant number of credits from other programs or colleges. Students acquire well-rounded skills to pursue a variety of academic disciplines and careers.

Associate of Arts

Mathematics

This degree is designed to help students transfer to colleges and universities that offer baccalaureate degrees in Mathematics. Students will work with one-variable functions and multi-variable functions, apply theorems, and solve mathematical problems.

Associate of Science

Science

These classes lead to an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Science, which is designed to allow graduates to transfer to a four-year college or university and pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Depending on where students plan to transfer, they may be better served by following this more general approach, or by following a more program-specific transfer pattern (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.).

Associate of Science

Physics

This degree pattern is designed to help students transfer to colleges and universities that offer a baccalaureate degree with a major in Physics. Beyond the General Education requirements and options, this pattern should be considered in light of the requirements of the selected transfer institution.

Associate of Science

Sustainable Horticulture

CCBC’s Sustainable Horticulture Program provides an innovative and multi-faceted approach to train students who wish to enter or advance in various careers within horticulture. Graduates will gain a thorough knowledge and practical experience in three areas of sustainable horticulture: landscape design, restoration, installation, and maintenance; turf and grounds maintenance; and greenhouse production. In addition some students prepare themselves to further their education and transfer to 4-year institutions.
