Jalen E. Rose is an artist, educator, Pilates practitioner and investigator of historical context on modern movement practices. Rose holds a B.S. from Drexel University and an M.F.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a Baltimore native, she grew up exposed to a wide variety of expressive arts. This led Rose to her research of rhythm, analyzing how it manifests in movement, spoken word and visual art.
Rose's research seeks to find connections that exist across the vastness of the African Diaspora. Though her research stems from her experience in Black American culture, she has conducted transnational research in countries such as Liberia, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
