Lelia Hopkins
Member, Senior Star Showcase
After retiring from a career in nursing, Lelia Hopkins was thinking about what to do with her new-found free time. She was familiar with CCBC through the music, fitness and dance courses she had taken at the college, so it wasn’t long before she discovered the Senior Star Showcase at CCBC Essex. The Senior Star Showcase provides opportunities for area seniors to perform in musical revues and fully staged musicals.
“ It’s good to see more people attending – and participating in – performances. The community benefits so much from being able to have an outlet for individuals’ artistic interests. My experience at CCBC has been enriching and fulfilling. I’m utilizing talents I didn’t know I had!”
Lelia joined the group in 2006 as a chorus member, but within a few years she was performing solos and starring in lead roles. But it was more than just the chance to sing, dance and act that made Lelia a huge fan of the program. She credits the Senior Star Showcase with providing opportunities to expand her social network, stay active, and form lifelong friendships with her fellow performers.
