Kabish Shah

A 2011 graduate of CCBC Catonsville, Kabish Shah continued his education by earning both a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 2014 from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). He remained committed to his education by earning a Master of Science in Engineering Management in 2015 from UMBC. In 2021, he was named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.

Mr. Shah continues to blaze a path in the field of Engineering, serving since 2013 in several leadership-based roles for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Baltimore, MD. In his current position as Project Manager at Whiting-Turner, he leads teams on major multi-million dollar construction projects for the company’s clients. He spearheaded the construction and development of several notable multi-million dollar facilities in the Baltimore-Metropolitan area, including UMBC’s Performing Arts and Humanities building, the MGM Casino and Hotel at National Harbor and Loyola Blakefield’s – Innovative Learning Center, among others.

Prior to his work for Whiting-Turner, Mr. Shah facilitated and instructed Robotics workshops for NExT (NASA's Engineering Exploration Training) funded by NASA's BEST (Beginning, Engineering, Science and Technology), that provided educators with NASA’s unique experimental learning opportunities, in addition to providing STEM experiences to students and high school teachers. He continues to serve as a senior judge for VEX and FRC Robotics.

Mr. Shah acknowledges his roots as a leader in the engineering field are a direct result of his CCBC education and he shares with others the important role CCBC played in providing him with the foundation needed to continue to grow and excel in the Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics fields.

Mr. Shah joined the CCBC Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2017. He works tirelessly on behalf of CCBC to raise capital to fund scholarship programs, increase alumni participation in fundraising efforts and strengthen diversity among alumni. In addition to his current role as board president, he also represents the Alumni Association as an at-large board member to the CCBC Foundation Board.

His passion and commitment to service and engaging fellow alumni is commendable, and we are delighted to recognize him as our Distinguished Alumnus this year,” said Ann-Marie Thornton, director of Development and Alumni Relations. “His exemplary volunteer service as president of the CCBC Alumni Association, in addition to his commitment to supporting our students and alumni, makes him a true model of success.”

Mr. Shah, a native of Nepal who moved to the United States to pursue his dream of earning an engineering degree from an American college, is the youngest recipient of this award, at the age of 30. As a direct result of his academic accomplishments, he remains a life member of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society, the Golden Key International Honour Society, Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Mathematics Honor Society and several other notable honor societies.
