CCBC selected as top military-friendly college

Mar 31, 2015

Military Advanced Education, which employs a variety of selective criteria to evaluate participating institutions, has again named CCBC as a top military-friendly college. The 2015 criteria include financial assistance, flexibility, general support, military culture, on campus support and online support. CCBC was one of only five Maryland-based schools to be included and was ranked highly in the “flexibility” and “military culture” categories.

Enhancing services for military veteran students has been a priority for CCBC since President Kurtinitis signed the Maryland Campus Compact for Veterans in 2011. Each of the institution’s three campuses offers a Veterans Service Center where student veterans can connect with peers and explore college programs and opportunities, as well as a dedicated veterans certifying official to offer one-on-one assistance, coordination and counseling regarding VA benefits.

Last fall, CCBC hosted two high-profile events for veteran students – Boots to Suits, a seminar specifically geared toward helping veterans transition from the military into college and Stand Down, an event focusing primarily on female veterans connecting them with resources for housing, health screenings, employment and more.

Approximately 700 veterans are enrolled at CCBC and their contribution to the overall learning environment does not go unnoticed.

According to President Kurtinitis, “Our veterans bring a unique maturity and life experience to the classroom – an experience that in most cases enhances classroom discussion and benefits every student’s learning.”
