Keep an eye to the sky

CCBC star parties and planetarium shows bring space study down to earth for our communities! All programs are free and open to the public.

Observatory at CCBC Dundalk
Every other Friday evening during the academic year—weather permitting—CCBC Dundalk hosts star parties at the observatory located on campus. These free outdoor stargazing gatherings allow participants of all ages to observe celestial bodies through the observatory’s Celestron 14 inch CGE 1400 XLT telescope. Discussions are led by CCBC Astronomy faculty, giving stargazers a real-time study of the skies above.

To visit the observatory, take an immediate right onto College Parkway as you enter the CCBC Dundalk campus. Look on the right for a small domed building on the grass.

Planetarium at CCBC Catonsville
CCBC’s new planetarium is the star of the new state-of-the-art Mathematics and Science Hall. It offers a theatre with five-tiered seating for 72 guests, allowing the projection of supersized images on its domed ceiling. Beginning in February 2016, planetarium shows will be held monthly on topics about the solar system. Popular shows include The Sky—A Camper’s Canopy and the animated children’s favorite, Space Bunny.

School groups may schedule planetarium visits by calling 443-840-4560.
