An early Roman comedy by Plautus, The Menaechmi Twins is the earliest recorded “separated twins” comedy. Its plot filled with mistaken identities, misplaced blame and missed connections has inspired other comedies through the centuries, including Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors, and the musicals Boys from Syracuse and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

CCBC Essex Academic Theatre’s ensemble cast includes: CeCe Heck (Baltimore City) as Ancilla and Medicus; Christian Fisher (Essex) as Menaechmus 1; Anjali Cornish (Lutherville) as Messenio, Anna Steuerman (Lutherville) as Prologa and Matrona and Claire Wescott (Lutherville) as Peniculus and Senex; Jalon Payton (Overlea) as Thalio and Cylindro; Yasmine Hasib (Owings Mills) as Erotium, and Giustino Puliti (Perry Hall) as Menaechmus 2.

Linda Chambers, an accomplished area director and playwright as well as a teacher at Carver Center for the Arts and Stevenson University, is guest director for the production. CCBC’s Terri Raulie is the scenic and lighting designer, and James J. Fasching is the costumer.
