The National Junior College Athletic Association announced its 2015-16 Academic Student-Athlete Awards, with eight CCBC student athletes earning recognition.
Devin Conroy (CCBC Essex, Baseball), Ashley Hallameyer (CCBC Essex, Women’s Soccer) and Courtney Tripp (CCBC Essex, Women’s Volleyball) all received the Superior Academic Achievement Award for having a grade point average in the 3.80-3.99 range.
Willow Allen (CCBC Catonsville, Women’s Soccer), Tyler Bankert (CCBC Catonsville, Men’s Basketball), Ryan Horseman (CCBC Dundalk, Baseball), Emily Cherry (CCBC Essex, Women’s Volleyball) and Garrett Lorenz (CCBC Essex, Men’s Soccer) earned the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award for finishing the academic year with a grade point average of 3.60-3.79.
Formally the NJCAA Academic All-America, the “NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards program has annually recognized the academic success of the association’s student athletes since the program’s inception in 1983.”
For FY 2016, CCBC student athletes earned 60 awards for academic excellence and 87 awards for athletic excellence at the national, regional, conference and college level. Overall, the athletic teams won three Region XX and two Maryland JUCO Conference titles.
