Legacy of Laura LeMire lives on through scholarship fund
Jun 13, 2018CCBC is committed to being a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, where there is a shortage of students pursuing these high-demand fields. As part of this commitment, CCBC raises funds for student scholarships through The Laura E. LeMire STEM Scholarship Fund to promote STEM education, four-year college transfer and STEM career readiness.
CCBC recently received a $3,500 donation from Revere Bank in support of The Laura E. LeMire STEM Scholarship Fund established in memory of CCBC Engineering Department Chair Laura LeMire, who lost her battle with cancer in August of 2017. LeMire was a respected CCBC faculty member, leader and administrator. She was most proud of her work in helping women and minorities to build a pathway to success by enrolling in STEM studies at CCBC, graduating with STEM degrees and acquiring STEM-related employment.
“Revere Bank’s contribution will allow CCBC to provide under-served and low-income students who want to pursue STEM-related fields with both financial and academic support,” said Ken Westary, VP of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director, CCBC Foundation.
The Laura LeMire STEM Scholarship is awarded to qualified CCBC students pursuing degrees in STEM-related disciplines who are enrolled in six or more credits and with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms. Award recipients are selected by the CCBC Scholarship Committee.
