Tour lab, meet instructors, explore careers at CCBC Essex Nov. 8 event

Baltimore County, MD — Community College of Baltimore County’s (CCBC) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program will host two Open House and Career Exploration Sessions, 12 - 2 p.m. and 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8 at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. Both sessions will be held in the Administration Building, Room 203.

Participants in the MLT Open House and Career Exploration Sessions will be able to tour the college’s laboratory, observe laboratory procedures in progress, meet with instructors and discuss medical lab career opportunities.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 16 percent increase in employment for medical laboratory technicians through 2024. The projected growth of this industry is fueled, in part, by an increase in the U.S. aging population and a greater need to diagnose medical conditions through lab testing.

CCBC’s School of Health Professions offers an associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Medical Laboratory Technology designed to prepare students for careers in laboratory medicine. Medical lab technicians are trained to perform a variety of complex laboratory tests; develop data on blood, tissues, and other fluids of the human body; use highly computerized and automated equipment; interpret patient results; evaluate quality control tests; and maintain lab equipment.

The MLT Open House and Career Exploration Sessions are free and open to the public. For more information or to RSVP, contact Jennifer Pope at 443-840-1780 or at
