Dundalk, MD — Community College of Baltimore County Dund alk Athletics announced that it has named Derrick Lewis as the head coach of the CCBC Dundalk Lions Women’s Basketball team for the 2018-2019 season. Women’s basketball will return to CCBC Dundalk next season after a one-year hiatus.

A health, fitness, and physical education teacher at Archbishop Spalding High School, Lewis played basketball at the University of Maryland from 1984 to 1988 for legendary coaches Lefty Driesell and Bob Wade. As a Maryland Terrapin, he was two-time Atlantic Coast Conference All-Conference and the only UM men’s player to record two triple-doubles.

After graduation, Lewis played basketball professionally for the Federal International Basketball Association in the French Professional Basketball League. He was a four-time French League All Star and a six-time French Rebound champion. He is the only player to ever record a quadruple-double in the French A-league (20 points, 12 rebounds, 11 blocks, 10 steals). A quadruple-double has occurred only four times in the NBA.

Retired in 2004, Lewis owns and operates the Derrick Lewis Basketball Camps and Clinics, teaching basketball fundamentals to children and young adults. He is the 2011- 2012 Baltimore Catholic League Coach of the Year and 2012-2013 Anne Arundel County Coach of the Year.

In 2015, Lewis earned his master’s degree in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University and currently lives in Windsor Mill, Md. with wife Kelli and daughter Jacey. He also has an adult son, Kyree.

Looking forward to start recruiting as soon as possible and rebuilding the Women’s Basketball program, Lewis said, “My goal is to take the CCBC Dundalk Women’s Basketball program and promote a culture of perseverance and total effort whether on the court or in the classroom. This will help prepare our individual young ladies for successful futures.”
