CCBC Student Athlete
Gianna Marchini came to CCBC because she knew that it would give her a solid start on her goal of becoming a nurse. Getting the opportunity to play collegiate softball (and getting a scholarship for it) was a big bonus.
She takes advantage of CCBC’s flexible scheduling to work her classes around practice and study times, making it possible to be both a good student and a standout athlete.“Because I play softball, I have to be finished my classes before practice time” she says. “It’s been very easy to work with my advisor to get the class times I need as well as making sure I have the right classes to transfer.”
Gianna aims to complete her degree in General Studies at CCBC before transferring to Notre Dame of Maryland University to study Nursing. The academics at CCBC “have been challenging and there is more coursework than I expected. But I think that’s what makes me feel well prepared to move on,” Gianna says. Smaller class sizes make it easier to get one-on-one help from her professors, she explains, and Gianna enjoys how faculty members know their students on a personal level.
“It’s a good first step. You can count on personal attention and help whenever you need it, and it’s very affordable,” Gianna explains. “It’s the best decision you can make.”
