Masterpieces & Memorials, PA

Celebrate the masterpieces of one of America's foremost architects, Frank Lloyd Wright, who built two wonderful examples of his organic form in PA's Laurel Highlands region—Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob—both National Historic Landmarks. We'll visit The Flight 93 National Memorial outside of Shanksville, PA—a tribute to the 40 passengers and crew who died while thwarting a terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Memorial includes the Memorial Plaza, A Memorial Plaza Wall and Walkway, and Wall of Names.

We'll also stop at the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel which houses personal items of the victims, plus portraits and biographies of the passengers and crew. We'll honor the heroes of the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site. This site is dedicated to the heroes who helped save nine miners trapped 240 feet underground. The story of the five-day rescue effort and miraculous rescue of the miners is told here.

National Parks of America

America's Greatest Treasures!
Experience the grandeur of the American West as you explore five fantastic national parks on this exciting journey. Experience Yellowstone National Park and stay in a National Historic Landmark at the Grand Canyon. Enjoy a breakfast cruise on Lake Powell. Marvel at the magnitude and color of Zion's cliffs and Bryce Canyon National Park.

Enjoy 2-night stays in Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole. Drive through the incredible Bighorn Mountains and the great Sioux Nations Territory before seeing Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument. Corning, NY
June 20 - 21, 2019
2-Days, 1-Night Trip


Our first stop will be the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Harrisburg. The Capitol is a National Historic Landmark and the centerpiece is a spectacular 272-foot, 52 million-pound dome inspired by Michelangelo's design for St. Peter's Basilica, in Rome. After a stop for lunch, we'll arrive at the Corning Museum of Glass where we'll enjoy a guided tour before our dinner buffet in the museum. The Museum is home to the world's most in-depth collection of glass, showcasing 3500 years of artistry and innovation.

The Galleries show the most comprehensive and celebrated glass collection in the world containing objects that represent every country and historical period in which glass-making has been practiced. We'll return to the museum on Day 2 to see additional exhibits and glass artist demonstrations. In the afternoon, we'll visit the Rockwell Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, which tells the story of the American experience through fine art.

We depart for home at 4 p.m. with a dinner stop on the way.

Howard Cohen, instructor at CCBC Owings Mills, will be leading the group.
