Hudson Valley, NY2-Day, 1-night trip
Thursday/Friday, June 14-15, 2012
The first stop on this trip will be the life-long home of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Springwood. During his years as Governor of New York and President, Springwood was the nucleus of his life and career. Throughout his presidency he returned some 200 times for temporary respite from Washington and for the nourishment Springwood game him. By 1944, ill and weary from the intensity of the war effort, there was a note of finality when he said: "All that is within me cries out to go back to my home on the Hudson River."
We'll check into the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Poughkeepsie to refresh before we head to The Culinary Institute of America for dinner.
On Friday, we'll visit the retreat of Eleanor Roosevelt – Val-Kill Cottage. "The greatest thing I have learned is how good it is to come home again." This is the place most closely associated with one of the most prominent women of 20th-century America.
After lunch at a local diner we'll drive to the United States Military Academy for a guided tour. From the day of its founding on March 16, 1802, West Point has grown in its size and stature, but it remains committed to the task of producing commissioned leaders of character for America's Army. There will be time to visit the museum and gift shop before our departure for home.

Note: This trip will depart from and return to CCBC, Essex Campus.
