Counselors will neither confirm nor deny that a student is visiting the counseling center. All information shared with a clinical counselor at CCBC is confidential. No counseling information is ever included in your academic record.

No information will be released without the client’s written consent except for the following circumstances:
  • When there is a risk of imminent danger to you or to another person.
  • When there is suspicion that a child or elder is being sexually or physically abused or at risk of such abuse.
  • When a valid court order is issued for counseling records.
  • When you waive confidentiality with a written request to disclose information to another health care or service provider.

During the counseling process, the counselor will work with the student to:
  • Build rapport
  • Assess the problem
  • Set goals with the student
  • Initiate intervention
  • Termination, referral, follow up
These counseling services are not a forum where the counselor will solve the student’s problems, it is not a long-term psychotherapy nor is it a friendship.
