Technical Requirements for CCBC Online Courses

CCBC course management system is Blackboard 9.1. Like any software, Blackboard has specific compatibility requirements that must be met for it to function properly. Make sure that your computer meets these requirements.

Internet access

To take online courses at CCBC you must have access to a computer with an Internet connection and an email account. A broadband Internet connection is preferred. Many CCBC students use computers in public libraries, CCBC libraries and other on-campus public use areas to complete their course work.

Supported operating systems and browsers

In order for Blackboard 9.1 to function properly on your computer, you must be using a compatible operating system and browser. Blackboard maintains a matrix of supported browsers, plugins and operating systems that have been validated for use with Blackboard 9.1. Other browsers and operating systems may work with Bb 9.1 but are not supported by Blackboard. To determine your current browser version, open the Help menu at the top of the browser screen and select About.

Please note: Internet Explorer 6 and 7; Firefox 1.x, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5; Safari 2.0 and 3.x; and Mac OSX 10.4 "Tiger" are not supported by Blackboard 9.1. Java 5 is not supported by Blackboard 9.1.

Java is a program that allows many of the tools in Blackboard to function. You may already have one or more versions of Java on your computer. Blackboard 9.1 requires the latest version of Sun JRE 6.

To find out which version of Java you’re running,
  • click on the Start button
  • then click Settings and Control Panel
  • Look for Java on the list and double-click it
  • Click on the About button for details.

Having more than one version of Java on your computer has been found to cause problems in Blackboard. You should remove any versions of Java other than the required version.

Some online courses may require additional software plug-ins. Below are some of the commonly used programs.
