Friday, February 22, 2008 vs St. John's River (DH) L 12-5, W 8-5 (1-1)

CCBC Catonsville lost its 2008 season opener, 12-5, to St. John's River (FL) after relinquishing a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cardinals bullpen surrendered nine runs over the final two innings aided by two costly errors. Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.), Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.), and Nelson Pacheco (Poinciana HS, Fl.) each contributed two hits to lead the offense. Trevor Nail (Milbrook HS, Va.) took the loss as the team fell to 0-1 for the season. In the second game, the Cardinals earned a split of the doubleheader,winning 8-5. Victor Moreno (Poinciana HS, Fl.) overcame some early control problems to pick up the victory surrendering one earned run. Chris Joyce (Palm Coast HS, Fl.) earned the save working out of a critical bases loaded jam in the fifth inning. Juan Waters (Randallstown HS, Md.), Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.), and Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) led the offensive attack with two hits each as the Cardinals pounded out 11 base hits for the game. 

Sunday, February 24, 2008 vs Seminole (DH)) L 4-1, 6-2 (1-3)

Seminole CC pitching held CCBC Catonsville to five hits and then broke open a tight game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Cardinals, 4-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Jack Pentelias Field. John Schmeer (Hammond HS, Md.) threw a complete game but suffered the first loss of his two-year career at CCBC Catonsville. Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) led the Cardinals offense with two hits. In the nightcap, Seminole CC broke open a tie ball game with a three-run fifth inning, completing the sweep of CCBC Catonsville. The Cardinals also suffered two season ending injuries in the loss, losing starting pitcher Brock Emery (Waynesboro HS, Pa.) with a partial tear of his ulna collateral ligament and Chris Joyce (Palm Coast HS, Fl.) with a ruptured disc in his lower back. Alex Arias (Howard HS, Md.) had two hits and Evann Farren (Cuyahoga Hts, HS, Oh.) drove in two runs to lead the offense as the Cards fell to 1-3 on the season. Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) suffered the loss in relief.

 Monday, February 25, 2008 vs South Florida L 8-3 (1-4)

South Florida CC broke open a tight game with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to earn an 8-3 victory over CCBC Catonsville. The Cardinals offense struggled all night collecting only three hits and striking out 12 times versus SFCC pitching. Jordan Wiley (CHEN HS, Md.) suffered the loss despite the Cardinals pitching staff striking out 13 South Florida batters. Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth, striking out two successive batters to keep the Cards in striking distance, but the CCBC Catonsville offense was unable to sustain any attack.

 Tuesday, March 4, 2008 vs Harford Tie 4-4 (Suspended)

Victor Moreno (Poinciana HS, Fl.) struck out eight in four innings and Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) collected two hits as CCBC Catonsville played to a tie against Harford CC in a game that was suspended by darkness after the eighth inning. The game will be completed prior to the regularly scheduled game at Harford CC on April 15th. Juan Waters (Randallstown HS, Md.) also contributed two hits and Nelson Pacheco (Poinciana HS, Fl.) made several outstanding defensive plays to help preserve the tie in the Cardinals Maryland JUCO Conference opener.

 Thursday, March 6, 2008 vs Lackawanna L 6-1 (1-5)

Lack of offense and injury problems continued to plague the Cardinals as defending NJCAA Region XIX champion Lackawanna College fought its way to a 6-1 victory. CCBC Catonsville lost starting outfielder and cleanup hitter Roland Haskins (Bishop Ireton HS, Va.) indefinitely with a hamstring injury and the Cardinals could never mount a serious threat against Lackawanna pitching. Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.) collected two hits and Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) threw out four Lackawanna base runners trying to steal in the loss. Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) suffered the loss despite allowing only two earned runs in seven innings pitched. CCBC Catonsville also committed five errors in the defeat.

 Tuesday, March 11, 2008 vs Anne Arundel W 13-6 (2-5)

The defending Maryland JUCO Conference champion CCBC Catonsville Cardinals earned their first conference victory pounding out 12 hits in a win over visiting Anne Arundel CC. Jordan Wiley (Chen HS, Md.) picked up the victory with three solid innings of relief. Juan Waters (Randallstown HS, Md.) collected three hits and T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.) added two hits to help the Cards break open the game late. Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.) drove in three runs and Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) and Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) each added two RBI while the Cardinals stole seven bases. The Cardinals injury woes continued as Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) re-injured a deep bone bruise and ruptured bursa sac in his left elbow and is listed as day to day.

 Thursday, March 13, 2008 vs Prince George's W 16-2 (3-5)

Danny Burgee (Western Tech HS, Md.) won his first collegiate start while striking out five and the Cardinals pounded out 13 hits to defeat Prince George's, 16-2 Nick Cotter (Mt. St, Josephs HS, Md.) had three hits and T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.) added three hits and three RBI in the win. Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) added four RBI on two hits and Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fla.) also contributed two hits.

Friday, March 14, 2008 vs Cuyahoga CC W 12-3 (4-5)

John Schmeer (Hammond HS, Md.) went seven strong innings to lead CCBC Catonsville to a 12-3 win over visiting Cuyahoga. The Cardinal's offense pounded out 13 more hits in the victory. Juan Waters (Randallstown HS, Md.) and Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.) each contributed three hits while Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.) and T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.) each added two hits. Evann Farren (Cuyahoga Hts. HS, Oh.) hit a solo home run as well as the Cards won their third straight game.

Saturday, March 15, 2008 vs Cuyahoga (DH) W 7-3, W 11-4 (6-5) 

CCBC Catonsville scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome the visiting Eagles in the first game of a doubleheader and pick up a 7-3 win. Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) picked up the victory with six innings of work and Kevin Clark (Hayfield HS, Va.) picked up the save. T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.) hit a clutch two-out, two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate the tying and go-ahead runs, while Alex Arias (Howard HS, Md.) and Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) each contributed two hits. In the nightcap, the Cardinals completed the sweep by cruising to an 11-4 win. Jordan Wiley (CHEN HS, Md.) picked up the victory, surrendering only four hits in four innings, while striking out five. Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.) and Evann Farren (Cuyahoga Hts. HS, Oh.) each had 2 hits to lead the offensive attack.

Wednesday, March 19, 2008 vs Lenoir (NC) L 10-0 (6-6)

Lenoir pounded out 14 hits, while the LCC pitching staff limited the CCBC Catonsville offense to only six hits in shutting out the Cardinals in the series opener 10-0. CCBC Catonsville committed five errors, allowing six unearned runs in the defeat. Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.) provided the only offensive spark by going three for three with two singles and a double.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 vs Lenoir (NC) L 10-9 (6-7)

Lenoir CC rallied from an early 8-6 deficit and then hung on to gain the series sweep with a 10-9 win. CCBC Catonsville pitchers surrendered five home runs and 14 hits in the defeat. Evann Farren (Cuyahoga HTs. HS, Oh.) had a key three-run double to put the Cards ahead early and T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.) had two hits. Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.) hit a solo home run for one of his two hits.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008 vs CCBC Essex W 8-3 (7-7)

CCBC Catonsville returned to its winning ways with an 8-3 victory over cross-town rival CCBC Essex. The victory improved the Cardinals to 2-0 in the Maryland JUCO Conference. Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) threw a complete game and gave up 0 earned runs to pick up the victory. Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fla.) had three hits, while Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fla.) and Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.) each added two hits in the Cardinals 12 hit attack. Juan Waters (Randallstown HS, Md.) stole two bases as the Cards swiped a total of six for the game.

Thursday, March 27, 2008 vs CCBC Dundalk W 15-9 (8-7)

The Cardinals improved to 3-0 in Maryland JUCO Conference play with a 15-9 win over CCBC Dundalk. CCBC Catonsville jumped out to an early 10-1 lead and cruised to the victory behind a 14-hit attack. T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted, Oh.) hit a three-run home run and also added two other hits, while Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) added three hits. Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.), Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.), and Evann Farren (Cuyahoga Hts. HS, Oh.) each contributed 2 hits. Jordan Wiley (CHEN HS, Md.) picked up his third victory of the season in relief.

Saturday, March 29, 2008 vs Garrett (DH) L 2-1, W 11-3 (9-8)

CCBC Catonsville lost its first game in Maryland JUCO Conference play, dropping a tough 2-1 decision to Garrett College. The Cardinals started off the game with two consecutive hits by T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.) and Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) but were then held hitless for the remainder of the game. Jordan Wiley (CHEN HS, Md.) suffered the defeat despite allowing only six hits for the game while striking out five. Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.) hit a three-run home run and also collected four hits as the Cardinals rebounded to take the second game 11-3. Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) and Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) each collected two hits. Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) picked up his third win of the season throwing five innings, giving up one earned run. Kevin Clark (Hayfield HS, Va.) pitched a perfect last inning to complete the split of the series.

Thursday, April 3, 2008 vs Anne Arundel W 13-2 (10-8)

The CCBC Catonsville offense rapped out 14 hits on its way to a 13-2 victory over AACC. Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.), Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.), and Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.) each collected three hits as the Cardinals collected six extra base hits. John Schmeer (Hammond HS, Md.) picked up the victory throwing six innings of one-hit baseball.

Saturday, April 5, 2008 vs College of Southern Maryland (DH) W 4-0, W 3-1 (12-8)

Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) threw six innings, surrendering only three hits as the Cardinals won their third straight game with a shutout over visiting CSM. Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) collected two hits and the Cardinals stole eight bases, including three by Juan Waters (Randallstown HS, Md.), in the game to secure the win. In the second game, Victor Moreno (Poinciana HS, Fl.) threw a complete game surrendering only three hits while striking out nine. Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.) hit a tie-breaking two-run home run in the sixth inning to lead CCBC Catonsville over the College of Southern Maryland to complete the sweep. Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) and Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.) each added two hits to help lead the Cardinals to victory.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008 vs Prince George's W 19-0 (13-8)

CCBC Catonsville bats pounded out 15 hits and three Cardinals pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout to post a 19-0 win over visiting PGCC. Jordan Wiley (CHEN HS, Md.) picked up the victory and Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS,Md.) led the offensive attack with four hits and five RBI. Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) added three hits while T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.), Roland Haskins (Bishop Ireton HS, Va.), and Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) each contributed two hits apiece.

Wednesday, April 9, 2008 vs Allegany (DH) W 9-0, W 9-2 (15-8)

John Schmeer (Hammond HS, Md.) threw six-shutout innings to pick up the 9-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader. Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) and Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.) each had three hits to lead the offense as the Cardinals beat Allegany College in a key match-up between two of the top teams in NJCAA Region XX. Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) and Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.) each added two hits in the Cardinals' 13-hit attack. Roland Haskins (Bishop Ireton HS, Va.) added a two-run home run in the sixth inning. In the nightcap, CCBC Catonsville completed the sweep with a 9-3 win. Jared Cozart (Pikesville HS, Md.), Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.), T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.), and Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.) each collected two hits apiece. Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md.) picked up his fifth win of the season with five innings of stellar pitching. Trevor Nail (Millbrook HS, Va.) picked up the save with two innings of solid relief as the Cardinals won their seventh straight game.

Thursday, April 10, 2008 vs Cecil W 14-3 (16-8)

The Cardinals extended their winning streak to eight games with a 14-3 victory over Cecil Community College. Victor Moreno (Poinciana HS, Fl.) picked up the victory, striking out nine Cecil batters. Jordan Wiley (CHEN HS, Md.) recorded the save with 3 and 2/3 innings of relief. CCBC Catonsville pounded out 15 hits, including three each by Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.) and Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.). Cardinal’s batters hit four home runs, including two by Matt Milburn, and one each by Rob Bigelow and Roland Haskins (Bishop Ireton HS, Va.). Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.) and Gino Sanchez (Poinciana HS, Fl.) also added two hits apiece as CCBC Catonsville improved to 10-1 in the Maryland JuCo Conference.

Saturday, April 12, 2008 vs Montgomery-Rockville (DH) L 6-3, W 13-6 (17-9)

MC Rockville scored two runs in the fourth inning to break open a tie game and then held on for a 6-3 victory over visiting CCBC Catonsville. The Cardinals' lackluster effort ended an eight-game winning streak. Jim Vagnier (Hammond HS, Md.) suffered the loss. Matt Milburn (Fallston HS, Md.), Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Md.) and Eric Weiser(West Orange HS, Fl.) each had two hits for the Cardinals. CCBC Catonsville rebounded to take the second game of the doubleheader with a 13-6 win. Evann Farren (Cuyahoga Hts. HS, Oh.) had two triples in the third inning and T.J. Murphy (North Olmsted HS, Oh.), Rob Bigelow (Glenelg HS, Md.), Eric Weiser (West Orange HS, Fl.), Kurt Thomas (Rocky River HS, Oh.), and Nick Cicio (Perry Hall Christian HS, Md,) each added two hits. The Cardinals broke open the game with an eigh-run third inning when they collected 10 hits. For the game, CCBC Catonsville pounded out 19 hits. Trevor Nail (Millbrook HS, Va.) picked up the victory with five innings of five-hit baseball.
