Shawn Burke

Head Coach

Coach Burke is entering his fourth season as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at CCBC-Essex. Burke has helped lead the Knights to three NJCAA Region XX Titles (2010-2012), as well as two consecutive appearances in the NJCAA National Championship game. Burke, named Maryland JUCO/Region XX Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011, has produced 10 NJCAA All Americans and 20 NJCAA All-Region XX players in his first two seasons at Essex.

As a high school attackman prepping at Calvert Hall College High School, Coach Burke was an All Baltimore City/County selection in 1991 under former coach Mike Thomas. He then moved on to play for current Lacrosse Hall of Fame Coach Don Zimmerman at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County. After graduating from UMBC in 1996, Burke returned to his high school alma mater, Calvert Hall, to work as an offensive assistant for the Cardinals from 1997-2002, before being named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland in 2003.

Prior to his tenure at Essex, Burke served as the Head Coach at Howard Community College, Burke was named the NJCAA Region XX Coach of the Year in 2005, 2006 and 2007, while producing the program's first 10 NJCAA All Americans, as well as coaching 33 Dragons during that time frame that were named to the NJCAA All Region XX Team. Burke also helped guide the Dragons to their first ever Maryland JUCO title in 2006, as well as their first ever appearance in the NJCAA National Final Four, finishing with a #3 national ranking in Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse. During the 2007 season, the Dragon offense averaged a hefty 18.4 goals per game, produced three NJCAA All-Americans on the offensive end, as well as the NJCAA Region XX Offensive Player of the Year, for the second year in a row. Coach Burke currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife Susan and their daughters Emma and Brynn.
