Before Abraham Lincoln became President of the United States, he was a simple country lawyer in Springfield, Illinois. He first gained fame by defending a client accused of murder, and was able to prove him innocent by using an almanac and the phases of the moon. This was immortalized in a scene in the 1939 Frank Capra film Young Mr. Lincoln starring Henry Fonda. Come see how he managed to successfully defend his client and the astronomy behind it.
