Banking

We recommend that you open a bank account in Baltimore as soon as possible. A checking account is the type of bank account that is the most useful because it allows you to deposit your money and then write checks against the balance. You can also use an ATM (automated teller machine) card to access funds in your checking account.

To open a bank account you will need

  • your passport
  • another form of identification such as your CCBC student ID card
  • an address in the U.S.
  • the money you will deposit either in cash, check or traveler's checks

If you bring a cashier's check or a bank draft to open an account, it may take a week or more for your check to clear which means you will not be able to use that money for a week or more. If you deposit traveler's checks or cash to open a bank account, you will have access to your money immediately.
