CCBC welcomes professional drag racers

Aug 24, 2019

American drag racers Leah Pritchett and Matt Hagen are visiting CCBC as part of the Automotive program’s Assemble Your Future initiative, 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11 at CCBC Catonsville.

Aimed at highlighting the successful career one can have in the automotive industry, the initiative also hopes to strengthen partnerships between CCBC’s Automotive program, the statewide high school Automotive program and local Fiat Chrysler Automobile dealers.
Pritchett and Hagen, both associated with Don Schumer Racing, will talk to students about their racing careers, conduct car maintenance and chassis dynamometer demonstrations as well as be available for photos and autographs. High-level officials within the FCA Baltimore Area Parts and Service Guild and CCBC’s Mopar Career Automotive Program Advisory Board will also meet to discuss ways to strengthen their partnership ensuring the next generation of automotive technicians are properly prepared for area auto dealers who are in need of direct access to a talented pool of technicians.

“It’s extremely important that students see varied career paths that exist in the automotive industry,” said Greg Weller, coordinator of the Assemble Your Future initiative and CCBC automotive instructor. Whether they are looking for careers at local car dealerships or are drawn to the excitement of the drag racing industry, there is a demand for quality technicians. These are not just jobs, they are lucrative careers.”
