Community College of Baltimore County is pleased to announce it has been named a 2022 Bellwether Award winner. CCBC is one of three award recipients selected from 30 community college finalists from across the country. The Bellwether Awards annually recognize outstanding and innovative programs and practices that are successfully leading community colleges into the future. Winners were announced March 1 at the 28th Annual Community College Futures Assembly annual meeting held in San Antonio, Texas.
The Bellwether College Consortium honors community colleges with awards in three categories: Instructional Programs and Services, Planning, Governance and Finance and Workforce Development. The finalists underwent a rigorous second and final round of review during the Community College Futures Assembly, and one winner was selected from each category by a panel of national experts.
CCBC won in the Instructional Programs and Services category, which recognizes programs and services that foster or support teaching and learning in the community college. The program titled General Education as a Mechanism to Promote Equitable Access to High-Impact Practices (HIPS) provides interventions that improve student success, engagement, and retention, particularly for minority students. CCBC infused HIPS into General Education courses that resulted in measurable improvement in student success and retention metrics.
This is not the first time CCBC has received this highly coveted award. The college won Bellwether awards in 2008 and 2014.
“We are so proud that CCBC is once again a recipient of the prestigious Bellwether Award,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. “Our team at CCBC works tirelessly to develop delivery models designed to improve the success of our students. It is quite an honor to be recognized for all of our hard work, and we will continue to raise the bar to stay competitive for our students.”
