CCBC names Derek Mitchell chair of the CCBC Foundation, Inc. board of directors

Community College of Baltimore County is pleased to announce that Derek Mitchell has been named chair of the Community College of Baltimore County Foundation, Inc. board of directors. Mitchell, who was most recently vice chair of the board, is the first African American male to be appointed chair.Established in 2005, the CCBC Foundation is an affiliated 501(c) (3) nonprofit corporation that provides external funding support for CCBC. Under the leadership of the board of directors, the CCBC Foundation seeks contributions from alumni, local businesses, corporations, employees, foundations and individuals to support student scholarships, cultural and curriculum development, facilities and equipment needs and other programs and activities that benefit the college.
Mitchell, a former resident of Baltimore County, is currently senior vice president of Grant Capital Management, Inc. where he oversees the financing of essential assets to municipal agencies as well as colleges and universities. He has also held positions at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Johnson & Johnson (Ortho-McNeil). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Hampton University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Loyola University Maryland.
In addition to serving on the CCBC Foundation board for four years, Mitchell is a member of the Alliance for Lupus Research and also participated in the Greater Baltimore Committee’s LEADERship program.
