Baltimore County, Md. (Jan. 16, 2026) — Community College of Baltimore County has received $3,700 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish its students experiencing hunger. The Nourishing our Neighbors grant supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.
“Food insecurity is an invisible crisis affecting the success of our students,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. “Over the past four years, use of our food pantries has increased by 299%. The Nourishing our Neighbors grant will enable us to provide more meals and snacks to our students, providing much needed nourishment to keep them focused and on track with their studies.”
Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s gift advances CCBC’s mission to transform lives through education by guaranteeing students have reliable access to basic needs that make learning possible. Through CCBC’s Locking Away Stigma: Helping Students Access Essential Food Resources program, funds will be used exclusively to purchase food to keep the college’s campus food lockers stocked, providing students with convenient, confidential access to essential grocery items. Food Lion’s gift strengthens CCBC’s broader food insecurity strategy by helping the college respond to rising demand for food assistance, so students can stay focused on coursework and complete their academic goals.
CCBC has food pantries on each of its three campuses and in 2023 added 108 food lockers. In Fall 2025 alone, 1,034 students made 7,225 pickups, taking home more than 26,000 items, while campus gardens provided over 500 pounds of fresh produce for healthier food options. CCBC food lockers served 735 students, offering both anonymity and convenience.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves.
