No cost pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs

Chart a new career path in the health care industry in as little as 5 months through pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs at CCBC. One of only a handful of educational institutions nationally to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, CCBC can pass along no-cost health care training to you.

Prepare to earn a national certification. Take advantage of in-class course options (Maryland residents) or allow the classroom to come to you, wherever you are. We offer a range of highly interactive courses that you can take entirely online.

Medical Front Office Pre-Apprenticeship

Prepare for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification and learn the administrative tasks which keep physicians’ offices, health care clinics and hospitals running efficiently, including the use of electronic health records.

Admission criteria

  • Minimum age 18.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Pass online reading assessment.
  • Complete the online application.

Medical Assisting Apprenticeship

Prepare to take the national certification exam to become a certified Medical Assistant (MA). The MA program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, www.caahep.org.

Medical Assistants perform clinical duties and some administrative duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, taking EKGs, and administering medications as directed by a physician. National Certification: CCMA

This is a “Learn and Earn” opportunity. Students will be expected to report for work with employer partners and will receive a wage for on-the-job training. Students are also required to complete additional instructional training, which may be online or in-class. Employers will make final decisions on admission to this competitive program.

  • Authorized to work in the USA.
  • Pass a background check/drug screening.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Have access to a computer and Wi-Fi.
  • Pass a reading and math exam.
  • Pass an online reading assessment.
  • Complete the online application.
  • Complete a brief virtual appointment with the Baltimore Alliance for Health Care.
  • Interview with employer – partner, who makes the final hiring decision.

Patient Care Technician Apprenticeship (CNA Certification Required)

Patient Care Technicians (PCT) perform delegated nursing functions that require a higher level of technical ability and skill, including: venipuncture, specimen collection, basic EKG, and advanced CNAs skills. PCTs can work in a hospital setting or urgent care facility. This course series prepares students to take the national certification exam for Patient Care Technician. Pre-requisite: CNA certification.

National Certification: CPCT/A

After you apply:

CCBC will review your application and invite you to complete an online reading assessment; if you are applying to a Medical Assisting or Surgical Technology Apprenticeship, you will be required to complete an in-person exam as well. You will receive an email regarding the testing dates.

For individuals who pass the CCBC review:
  • Pre-apprentices will be sent emails and invited to enroll.
  • Apprentices will be forwarded to employer - partners for interviews and a final decision will be made by the employer.
