Fab Lab Equipment

Here's a rundown of each piece of equipment, the software we use, and the file types we accept.

All materials are subject to approval of lab staff. Please bring proof of material (receipt, manufacturer's mark....etc.).

Mayku Formbox Vacuum Former

Specs: Forming size: 6x6" wide. It is recommended not to form anything taller than it is wide. Use 3D prints or other solid objects as a base form. Object must have no undercuts and vent holes in deep recesses.

Acceptable Materials: Material must be .05" or less in thickness.

Materials available in the lab: .02" clear PETG ($3 per 16" x 19"x .02" sheet)

Universal Laser Cutters

Specs: Bed size: 24x18". 60 watts. Cuts materials up to about 1/4" thick.

Compatible software: We use Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator, however, you can import vector file formats such as .DXF from CAD software such as AutoCad, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and Rhino 3D. Image files can be imported from file formats such as .PDF, .JPG, and .PNG. 

Acceptable Materials: Most materials excluding vinyl and PVC. Email us to check whether or not your material is acceptable.

ShopBot CNC Router

Specs: Bed size: 4'x8'
Z-Axis Travel Height: 3"

Compatible software: We use PartWorks V2.5, PartWorks 3D, or Aspire to generate tool path files. However, you can design in a program you feel comfortable with, such as Adobe Illustrator for more 2D files such as basic furniture design or SolidWorks, 123D Design, or a different CAD program for 3D modelling projects such as carving. Accepted file formats, V2.5: *.crv, *.dxf, *.dwg, *.eps, *.ai, *.pdf. Accepted file formats, 3D: *.v3D *.stl, *.v3m, *.3ds, *.x, *.dxf, *.lwo, *.sbp, *.wrl, *.obj.

Acceptable Materials:
Hardwood, plywood, formaldehyde-free MDF, and foam.

Dimension Elite 3D Printer
