Medical Imaging Department

CCBC has trained Medical Imaging professionals since 1973, with one of Maryland’s first associate degree programs in Radiography.

With a storied history and an eye on the future, CCBC aims to provide the medical community with competent graduates proficient in the latest medical imaging technology and patient care techniques.

The Medical Imaging training opportunities are housed at CCBC Essex and utilize the latest in didactic instruction, lab simulation, and hands-on clinical experience.

The lab and classroom space include:
  • Two energized x-ray machines
  • Mammography suite
  • Simulation software for diagnostic x-ray, OR, CT, and MRI
  • Tablets for classroom usage
Students gain clinical competency at several local hospitals and imaging centers in the Baltimore metro area.

Medical Imaging Offerings

Computed Tomography (CT)

Computed Tomography (CT) technologists create diagnostic images using advanced imaging techniques for interpretation by a radiologist.

We offer a 6 month blended certificate in Computed Tomography.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI technologists operate MRI scanners, picture archiving and communication systems and related equipment.

We offer a 9 month blended certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Mammography

Mammography courses are available to registered radiographers wishing to gain certification in Mammography.

These courses are 15 weeks long and offered in the Spring and Fall semesters.

Radiography

The Radiography Program is a JRCERT accredited twenty-two month full-time associate degree program. This program will prepare you to enter the field of diagnostic medical imaging as a Radiologic Technologist.

Through a combination of classroom and clinical education, students will:
  • Operate x-ray equipment.
  • Produce x-ray images of human anatomy.
  • Position patients for x-ray procedures.
  • Practice radiation safety.
  • Deliver patient care.

Registry Review Courses

The Medical Imaging department offers online courses to study for the ARRT’s post-primary certification exams in CT and MRI.

These 1-credit courses run for 4 weeks each and satisfy the ARRT’s Structured Education Requirements.

Our Curriculum

The Medical Imaging department utilizes curriculum from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and follows exam specifications from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for all courses. Programs and courses are designed to help students succeed in completing, passing national certification exams, and finding jobs in the community.

The advanced modality courses of CT, MRI, and Mammography satisfy the ARRT’s Structured Education Requirements for post-primary certification and registration.

Students must have a Radiography license in order to gain entry into the advanced modality programs and courses.
